Her first role was that of Arya Stark, a tomboyish young girl from a noble family, in the 2011 HBO fantasy TV series Game of Thrones. Williams was the first child actor in the show whose character killed another onscreen, in the eighth episode “The Pointy End”. She received acclaim for her performance, with Zap2it calling her “wonderfully feisty” and the The Daily Telegraph “fantastic”.
Williams continued to garner praise in Season 2, and HBO submitted her for consideration as Outstanding Supporting Actress at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards. Her performance won two 2012 Portal Awards for Best Supporting Actress/Television and Best Young Actor. At 15 years of age, Williams is the youngest ever to win the Best Supporting Actress category. In March 2013, Williams was nominated for a Young Artist Award as Best Young Supporting Actress in a TV Series.
Williams has appeared as Loren Caleigh in the BBC’s The Secret of Crickley Hall. Other work, either filming or in post-production, includes Abbie in Lantern Film Productions’ Gold movie, the lead in the short film Corvidae from Wolfheart Films/Cat and Weasel, and Jo O’Malley in Bold Films’ Heatstroke movie.
Williams’ most recent signing is for the lead role of Lorna Thompson in Movie Mogul’s sci-fi film We Are Monsters, which is currently in pre-production.
Also, in August 2012, she appeared in a Funny or Die skit titled “The Olympic Ticket Scalper” alongside Patrick Stewart, Simon Pegg, and Ryan Lochte.
