Sorry ‘Doctor Who’ fans, Maisie Williams isn’t coming back
One of the best parts of “Doctor Who” Season 9 is gone from the series, much to the chagrin of fans. Maisie Williams has confirmed she’s done with the show, meaning Ashildr blasting off into space and time with Clara (Jenna Coleman) is the last she’s going to be seen.
Williams confirms the news to Bang Showbiz (via Digital Spy). “I’m not going to be working on ‘Doctor Who’ again,” she says. “Everyone’s hyping about it, which is very exciting, but I guess that’s more of a publicity thing. But no, I’m not going to return, I have a lot of other really exciting projects lined up instead.”
She did enjoy the experience though, telling Ireland’s TV3, “I had such a wonderful time shooting that series, it was really great to work with Jenna and Peter [Capaldi]. It was such a different experience to shoot working in blocks, because I work on ‘Game of Thrones’ and we do everything all at the same time so it’s a different way of working.”
At least fans won’t have to wait very long to see Williams back on their TVs. “Game of Thrones” returns to HBO on April 24.
‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Premiere Date Set
TCA 2016: April premiere will be followed on HBO by Season 3 of “Silicon Valley” and Season 5 of “Veep”
“Game of Thrones” Season 6 will premiere on Sunday, April 24, HBO announced Thursday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
The George R.R. Martin adaptation will air at 9 p.m. ET, and be followed by the Season 3 premiere of “Silicon Valley” and Season 5 premiere of “Veep.”
Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” should finally answer the question, “Is Jon Snow really dead?” as well as welcome back Bran Star (Isaac Hempstead Wright), who was absent from Season 5 as the character underwent training with the Three-Eyed Raven.
The return of the youngest Stark son could be a game-charger for loyal followers of the family, and mark a revenge plot line against the Lannisters considering that it was Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) who crippled Bran by pushing him off a tower.
“Silicon Valley,” starring Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Zach Woods and Josh Brener, is created and executive produced by Mike Judge (“Office Space”), with Alec Berg, Tom Lassally, Michael Rotenberg, John Altschuler, Dave Krinsky and Scott Rudin also executive producing. The series is produced by Judgemental Films Inc. in association with 3 Arts Entertainment.
When “Veep” — which stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as (President?) Selina Meyer — returns for its fifth season, it will do so without series creator Armando Iannucci, who is departing the show after four seasons. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” alum David Mandel will serve as the new showrunner for “Veep.”

Maisie Williams skydives for charity wearing a Harry Styles-inspired T-shirt
What’s a 15,000-foot free-fall to Arya Stark?
Maisie Williams leaped from a plane at the maximum possible height over the weekend in support of Mencap and the Dolphin Project.
Interestingly, the Game of Thrones actress was wearing a Harry Styles-inspired T-shirt, with a quote reading, “Does anybody like dolphins?” It’s a question Styles posed to San Diego concertgoers over the summer, and in response to the crowd’s roar of affirmation, he replied, “Don’t go to SeaWorld.” Williams agreed with Styles’ sentiment to the point of posting video of the PETA-pleasing moment on Instagram, urging fans to head to Dolphin Project’s website for more. (The T-shirt also mirrors a few of Styles’ many tattoos, though it’s sadly lacking an enormous butterfly smack-dab in the middle of the banana-colored shirt.)
Williams called for donations on Thursday, linking to her JustGiving page in support of Mencap — a U.K.-based charity that advocates for those with learning disabilities — and to her Crowdrise in support of the Dolphin Project. As of this writing, Williams has yet to reach her fundraising goal for the latter charity.
“I just loved spiraling fast through parts of the cloud and when you come out — it’s so beautiful,” Williams said following the experience. “I love the whole thing.”

Guillermo del Toro wants Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams to appear in Pacific Rim 2, if it happens
Earlier this week, Universal Studios and Legendary confirmed reports that Pacific Rim 2 had been delayed as development work continued on the upcoming sequel. Despite the film no longer being on Universal’s calendar, that’s not stopping director Guillermo del Toro from fan-casting the film as he wrote on Twitter that he’s got on particular “Game of Thrones” star in mind.
In addition to the upcoming sixth season of “Game of Thrones” set to air next year, Williams can next be seen in two episodes of series 9 of “Doctor Who.”
Pacific Rim 2 was originally scheduled for release on April 7, 2017 before being pushed to August 4, 2017 and ultimately removed from the calendar altogether. In a statement, Universal declared they were “committed to having ‘Pacific Rim 2,’” but that the delay was needed so the “creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.”
Pacific Rim hit theaters in summer 2013 and grossed just $101 million at the domestic box office but went on to take in over $400 million worldwide. The original film starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.

“Game of Thrones” Maisie Williams to Star in ‘Forest of Hands and Teeth’
Maisie Williams is in negotiations to star in writer/director Kate Maberly adaptation of “The Forest of Hands and Teeth.”
Maberly is also producing the film with Doug Liman through her Hetherwood Productions.
Based on Carrie Ryan’s New York Times best-seller, the story is set “sometime in the future,” in a world where most of the human race has been taken by a bloodthirsty virus that leaves them roaming the planet as cannibals. Mary (Williams) seeks a world beyond the fenced-off village of survivors. The survival of the human race soon becomes dependent upon her success in leading a ragtag group through the dark depths of the Forest of Hands and Teeth.
“I am so incredibly excited to be stepping into the ‘Forest’ and collaborating with such a brilliant creative mind as Doug’s,” Maberly said. “We can’t wait to bring Ryan’s fantastical world to life and are absolutely thrilled to have Maisie on board.”
Maberly has already started gaining attention from studio execs as her short, “Charlie’s Supersonic Glider,” is generating buzz prior to its premiere at the Hollywood Film Festival on Thursday night.
The writer/director got her start as an actress in the 1993 film “The Secret Garden.” She has since appeared in a handful of other films, including “The Last of the Blonde Bombshells” with Judi Dench.
“At Hypnotic we pride ourselves on our track record with first-time showrunners, and as a film director, I have enjoyed equal success working with new talent,” said Liman, who is about finish production on the Tom Cruise movie “Mena.” “Working with Kate over the last year on ‘Forest,’ I have seen her blossom into an extraordinary storyteller.”
As for Williams, the young actress is a fan favorite on “Game of Thrones” and has received plenty of critical acclaim over the hit HBO show’s last five seasons.
Williams most recently appeared on “Doctor Who” and has a handful of film roles, such as “Gold” and “The Falling,” on the horizon. She is repped by WME and Louise Johnston Management.
